It’s unfortunate when the only people children must look up to, learn from, and emulate are the adults who are as immature as the children, if not even more so than the children. How can a child learn responsibility, when most of the adults in their lives are irresponsible? How can a child learn to respect others, when the adults in their lives have no respect for others? How can a child learn to address and resolve problems with others with cordial conversation? When the adults in their lives teach them to be angry and bitter even toward family members. How can a child learn right from wrong when the adults do wrong all the time while screaming to the children, “Do not do as I do, do as I say do!” How can a child learn the love of a parent or family member when they are constantly cut down, ridiculed, and told they are dumb, stupid, and ugly? Parents get angry and even want to punish their children for lying, yet they lie almost every time they speak. Adults spread unsubstantiated rumors about a friend, neighbors, and even family members while telling the children to mind their own business. Parents teach their children that they don’t have to listen to an older family member because they are angry with them. Everything YOU teach the children as a parent, adult, or guardian is childish.
Do you even know why you are angry or bitter towards your friend, neighbor, or family member? Is your reason a good enough reason to justify your actions? Or in all honesty, do you feel childish about how you overreacted and now you have too much pride to admit you were wrong so you continue to be childish and irresponsible? Setting a perfect example for those who look up to you for guidance to follow.
So, when the child starts having trouble with authority and it grows harder for them as they grow older, you can pat yourself on the back for a job well done. When the child finds themselves in trouble for being disrespectful to their elders, you can pat yourself on the back for that too. Or when they have no self-esteem, no pride, and no enthusiasm to succeed, go ahead and take that credit also. When they have such a sour disposition that no one in the family wants to have them around, all the people their age avoid them, and businesses will not hire them, yes that is all you! Congratulations! Because you choose to be an immature, irresponsible adult, all the young people and children in your life who looked up to you are now looked down upon by everyone else. Great job! My advice to you is simple, grow up.
