I Promise

I Promise, I swear. How often do we use or have we heard such claims? I cannot help but wonder why anyone would feel the addition of such words truly guarantees or validates the statement that so often follows. Equally so I wonder how many actually believe what they have been told will have true merit after the addition of such words? If I were to tell you something that you found difficult to believe, would it remove all doubt should I simply add “I promise it’s the truth”? If so, why then would you not believe what I said in its more simple form? To say I promise does not make a lie not a lie just as it does not make a truth a truth. My words just like yours as should be anyone else’s is simply that, words. If they hold no merit when spoken at first, NO additional words will change that. If your words are not believable let it be because the person or people you share them with do not know you and are leery of people they do not know, rather than being known and simply not trusted due to untruths you have been known to tell. Trust is much like credit. As you travel the winding staircase of life you will find it much easier to have it than to not have it. Let your word be also your bond. Mean what you say and say what you mean, while always allowing the needed time for your brain to go in motion before your mouth does.
