Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. Three completely different words with three completely different meanings, yet for some reason so many make every possible effort to combine them into one. Most don’t realize how much damage they are doing to both their today and tomorrow by dragging yesterday into the mix. Our reasons are simply unlimited. Most commonly is having been hurt in the past so keeping that in mind helps protect us from being hurt again today or tomorrow. It can be compared to our homes. While inside our homes we feel safe and protected. We are protected from the weather, the cold, and extreme heat. We are protected from loud noises and the boogie man. They do however present a problem, much like living our yesterdays in our minds. We can’t take our homes shopping at the local grocery store. We can’t travel in our homes or work on the job while inside our home either. In fact, if we tried to live our entire lives from inside our homes, our lives would be practically impossible to live. Just like living yesterday and today along with tomorrow is. I too like most have had many bad experiences in my past. Many of them are all but devastating. Should I choose to merge my yesterdays with my today and tomorrow, I could not do business with anyone at all for the simple fact that I have had business deals that cost me many thousands of dollars, therefore it would be impossible for me to trust anyone. I could not let my grown children out of my sight, simply because I have lost one and I would be horrified that I could lose another one or perhaps all of them. It would be impossible for me to have a loving and trusting relationship over the sheer fact that I have been cheated on, lied to, and even stolen from. My life has had so many ups and downs that I truly believe it inspired the inventor of the Yo-Yo. Merging your yesterdays into today and tomorrow is like trying to take a step forward and backward at the same time. It is impossible. I wish more than anything to step forward not backward. All that is behind me I have done, I have conquered, or at least overcome it well enough to be where I am today. We cannot completely ignore yesterday as if it didn’t exist. What we can do is choose only that part of yesterday that is going to help and or improve our today and tomorrow. We can take whatever we want from it, it is our choice. If your past haunts you, hurts your relationships, or creates problems for your business, it is because you choose for it too. If you truly want to live then live today. You cannot possibly live in yesterday, you cannot change anything that you did or didn’t do. You cannot UN-see what you have seen, un-hear what you have heard, or un-do what you have done. The people you come to know today did not exist in your yesterday so they cannot possibly be anything like what you experienced by another. You can’t even find two things on your own body that are perfectly identical to each other. How can you convince yourself that one person is going to be exactly like someone else you knew? Today is today, yesterday is gone, and tomorrow is never promised. Don’t let your past keep you from getting all that you can out of today and destroy any chance you had for a better tomorrow.
