Assume: to think that something is true or probably true without knowing that it is true. I fixed dinner for you but you didn’t show up. When you said, you would be coming over, I assumed you meant today. That man is an outstanding member of our church, I feel I can really trust him. That guy from the church stole money, left it on our table, and denied taking it but no one else has been in our home. I assumed since he went to church with us he could be trusted. That man is dressed all in black, with tattoos and chains, he even rides a motorcycle. No doubt he is an evil and dangerous man. At the emergency room my son nearly died, had it not been for the Dr. on call going above and beyond to save him, he would not be here today. When he came out to talk to us I was shocked to see that he was the same biker guy I saw earlier, I had assumed was evil and dangerous. With this ring, I thee wed, to have and to hold, to love and to cherish, through sickness and through health, for better or for worse, until death we do part. I hate you, you make me sick, I wish to God I had never met you, I wish that you would crawl in a hole and die. But, but, I assumed you loved me, that our vows meant something. I have this gold chain, look it has a price tag still on it. It was going to sell for $800.00. I got a great deal on it, I’m going to give you a great deal too. How about $100.00? Can you do $75.00? Great, thank you, you know you are stealing that chain from me, right? What? Is it only worth about $5.00? But, but, the price tag said $800.00, I assumed it was for real. The world is full of assumptions, we all do it every day of our lives in some way. We want so much to believe something is what it is supposed to be. Are we what we are supposed to be? Going to church does not make you a good person, just like not going doesn’t make you a bad person. Your taste in attire, your choice of transportation does not define who you are either. You can assume you are getting what you pay for and you will be sadly disappointed. You can assume that because they say I love you, love truly exists in their hearts, and be sadly disappointed. You can assume that if you are completely honest you will be believed and righteously rewarded for it. You will be sadly disappointed. You see in this day and time, in this world we live in if you don’t want to be disappointed, don’t assume, know. I assumed you knew that.
